When Axton’s momma reached out to me to take her little boy’s cake smash photos, I was absolutely ecstatic. I took little Axton’s newborn photos, and I love seeing the babies I photograph come back to me, even if it is a whole year later at the first birthday photoshoot.
Momma chose a “wild one” theme, which is the same theme as his first birthday party, and it completely fit his little personality. I began searching right away for the perfect props to create a cute camping inspired set for the session. I already had a lot of these things, but I made a small fake campfire with cardstock, cut some wooden logs to the right size (including one for the cake stand), and found some lights to hang on the backdrop. The set came together so much better than I ever planned, and I loved creating such a unique setup for this cake smash.
The day of the cake smash came, and Axton was totally wild, fun, smiley, and a complete joy for me to photograph. As always, we started the session with some regular, non-messy portraits, then we had the cake smash, then the cleanup bath after. Axton enjoyed his cake all too much, especially the strawberries that were on the cake! Mom and I had our hands full with trying to keep him on the set though, which was an exciting challenge.
For the bath portion, we did a classic bubble bath that little man had a lot of fun splashing in! He tried to stand up in the tub a few times, which was hilarious. He was all about the extra attention he was getting for the photoshoot, and he had so much fun.
Chandra, thank you so much for letting me capture these sweet moments of your little boy. Axton is the most spunky, sweet, and smart little boy who is going to change the world someday. You have created the most beautiful little boy and I have loved watching you thrive in this chapter of life.
